Summer Show
16th July to 14th August. This exhibition coincides with the Ryedale Festival and reflects its theme of 'Voyages and Homecomings'. There will be a private viewing for Festival goers during the early evening of 20th July. The artists to be featured are:
Darren Baker: A leading painter of the classical realism genre whose style shows influences of the Dutch masters and the contemporary Realist School. He is well known for his still life paintings and for his portraits but covers a wide range of subjects. His portraits include HRH Prince Charles and Tony Blair as well as many famous sporting personalities. A Sunday Times art critic referred to his still life paintings as capturing "The repose and intimacy of a traditional Dutch still life". We are delighted to be able to show, for the first time at Talents, the work of this outstanding artist.
David Bell: Born in Lincolnshire and living and working there, David attended Trinity House Navigation School in Hull before embarking on a career in the Merchant Navy. He spent nine years sailing around the world as a ship's navigator before changing course to obtain a BA in art. Thus he has an insider's understanding of his subject matter when he paints the maritime scenes for which he is best known, be they sailing ships or a more everyday trawler. He also loves to paint railway engines and other diverse subjects, including aviation and landscape paintings. Three books of his work have been published and we hope to have available copies of the most recent, published this year, reflecting martime history from Cook to Shackleton.
Ashley Hunter: Cheshire born and based painter Ashley Hunter has for many years had a love of animals and the countryside and this is apparent from his paintings. His subjects come from observation of animals in their natural habitat and he also draws on his early experience of working on Cheshire farms and, more recently, his love of country sports. At one time, he himself kept a pig and poultry. His work is in private collections in North America, Europe and New Zealand. Regular visitors to Talents will know his oil paintings depicting vividly the life of both farm and wild animals and birds, and his work is in great demand.
We are pleased to be associated with Ryedale Festival in mounting this exciting exhibition. Full details of Ryedale Festival concerts and other events may be found on their website: www.ryedalefestival.co.uk
